This Wisconsin Fairy Food (also known in the “Muggle” world as Sponge Candy or Honeycomb) is a light, airy treat that melts the moment it touches your tongue. Sweet, delicate, and delightfully magical, it’s a whimsical dessert that feels like a bite of pure enchantment.
Ingredients
Dry Base
- 1 cup flour (or almond flour)
- 1/2 cup sugar (or coconut sugar)
- A pinch of salt (or glittery sugar for extra magic)
Wet Magic
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Rainbow sprinkles, for garnish
Instructions
1. Prep the Oven
- Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
- Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper so the treats don’t stick.
2. Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt until light and lump-free.
3. Add the Eggs
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, stirring gently after each addition until fully incorporated.
4. Stir in the Butter
- Melt the butter and slowly drizzle it into the batter while stirring until glossy and smooth.
5. Bake with a Touch of Magic
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Sprinkle rainbow sprinkles on top for a whimsical finish.
- Bake 20–25 minutes, until edges are golden brown and the center is set.
6. Cool and Serve
- Allow to cool completely in the pan.
- Lift out with parchment paper and cut into squares.
