One-Skillet Cabbage Roll Casserole

This One-Skillet Cabbage Roll Casserole simplifies the traditional cabbage roll into an easy, one-pan dish that combines ground beef, cabbage, rice, and tomato sauce for a hearty, comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ large head of cabbage, shredded
  • ½ cup uncooked rice
  • 1 large white onion, chopped
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 15 oz beef broth
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Shredded cheese (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Start by heating the oven to 350°F.
  2. Brown the Beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, adding garlic in the last minute. Drain excess fat.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add shredded cabbage, chopped onion, tomato sauce, beef broth, rice, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Bake: Evenly spread the mixture in the skillet, optionally topping with cheese, and cover with foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, remove the foil, and bake for an additional 15-30 minutes until the rice and cabbage are tender.

Notes

  • For a leaner option, substitute ground beef with ground turkey.
  • Brown rice can be used as a healthier alternative to white rice.
