Applesauce Honey Bread
Ingredients
| Ingredient | Quantity |
|---|---|
| All-purpose flour | 3 cups |
| Baking soda | 3 teaspoons |
| Ground cinnamon | 2 teaspoons |
| Ground ginger | 1/2 teaspoon |
| Unsalted butter, room temperature | 1/2 cup |
| Honey | 1/2 cup |
| Granulated sugar | 1 cup |
| Large eggs | 2 |
| Unsweetened applesauce | 2 1/2 cups |
Directions
Step 1: Prepare the Pan and Oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a standard 9×5-inch loaf pan or two smaller loaf pans with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
Step 2: Combine the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and ginger until evenly combined.
Step 3: Prepare the Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, sugar, and honey until smooth and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the applesauce until fully combined.
Step 4: Make the Batter
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Avoid overmixing, as this can result in a dense loaf.
Step 5: Bake the Bread
Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
Step 6: Prevent Over-Browning
If the top begins to brown too quickly, loosely cover the loaf with aluminum foil during the last 15 to 20 minutes of baking.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the loaf. If it comes out clean or with a few dry crumbs, the bread is ready. Allow the loaf to cool completely in the pan or on a wire rack before slicing.
