Classic Italian Toto Cookies

There was always one cookie that disappeared first at Christmas. Not the sugar cookies, not the chocolate crinkles, not even the spritz—it was the Italian Toto Cookies. Tender chocolate spice cookies topped with a smooth vanilla glaze that sets with the slightest crackle in every bite.

My grandmother arranged them in neat rows on a lace tablecloth, each cookie gleaming like a little holiday decoration. The kitchen filled with the scent of cocoa, gentle spices, and sweet vanilla as the glaze dried and family chatter echoed nearby. Even now, a single bite brings back those warm December memories.

Today, Toto Cookies are a tradition in my own home. I make them for holidays, celebrations, and cozy winter evenings. Honestly, they’re just as wonderful alongside an afternoon coffee or anytime you’re craving something sweet and nostalgic.

This version creates soft, cake-like chocolate cookies finished with a silky glaze that practically melts away—no wonder they’ve been treasured for generations.
