Cheesesteak Stromboli
Ingredients:
– 1 lb ground beef
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 small onion, diced
– 1 bell pepper, diced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
– 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
– 1 large pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
– Italian seasoning (optional, for sprinkling)
Directions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Cook the Beef Filling:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper, and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Then, add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
Assemble the Stromboli:
Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving about an inch around the edges. Sprinkle the provolone and mozzarella cheese evenly over the beef mixture.
Roll and Seal:
Starting from one end, carefully roll the dough tightly to form a log. Pinch the edges to seal, and tuck in the ends to prevent the filling from escaping.
Egg Wash:
Transfer the rolled stromboli to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish. Optionally, sprinkle Italian seasoning over the top.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the stromboli is golden brown. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Serve:
