3-Ingredient Buttermilk Baked Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium russet potatoes (about 900 g)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions:

Step 1: Prep the Potatoes
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Wash and dry the potatoes, then pierce each one several times with a fork.

 

 

Tip: Piercing helps release steam during baking and prevents the potatoes from bursting.

Step 2: First Bake
Place the potatoes on a parchment-lined baking dish and bake for 35–40 minutes, until they begin to soften but are still slightly firm in the center.

Step 3: Add Buttermilk and Butter
Remove the potatoes from the oven. Cut a slit along the top of each one and gently press the ends to open them up. Pour the buttermilk over and into each potato, then drizzle with melted butter.

Tip: The buttermilk adds a light tang and helps create a softer, creamier texture inside.

Step 4: Finish Baking
Return the potatoes to the oven and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the liquid is mostly absorbed and the skins are lightly golden.

Step 5: Rest and Serve
Let the potatoes sit for about 5 minutes before serving so the texture settles and the moisture distributes evenly.
